DRM Deaf Services serves Maine people who are deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, Deaf-Blind (dual sensory loss—sight and sound) and with agencies and businesses who provide support, services, education, housing, and employment to ensure “effective communication.”
- Advice, individual consultation and advocacy at meetings and hearingsMaine Relay Service makes it possible for anyone with a hearing loss or speech impairment to communicate by telephone with operator-assisted calls.
- Maine people with any barrier to using a standard telephone can apply for specialized adaptive equipment through Maine’s Telecommunication Equipment Program, often at no or low cost.
- Those ages 65+ may be eligible to choose a single hearing aid.
- Maine residents with BOTH hearing loss AND vision loss may qualify for equipment to assist with distance communication, such as computers, screen reader or text zooming software, iPads, specialized keyboards, speakers, microphones, and cell phones.
