The Southern Maine Foster Family Recruitment Team is a joint venture of private and public agencies currently providing a variety of foster care services to Maine’s children. The collaborative seeks to raise awareness of the need for foster homes and provide support and training to foster families. The current makeup of the group includes: A Family for Me, Maine Department of Health and Human Services, Adoptive and Foster Families of Maine, Spurwink Treatment Foster Care, KidsPeace Foster Care and Community Programs, Community Health and Counseling Services, SMART Child and Family Services, and Woodfords Family Services.
We actively seek opportunities to increase our visibility in the community and raise awareness by selecting a number of venues for community exhibits each year. Exhibits have ranged from the Portland Pride Festival to the Cumberland County Fair. A Family for Me often contributes a Heart Gallery with photos of children awaiting adoption to community events. We work with a local bi-monthly magazine, Parent and Family, to highlight a foster family in each issue and run a feature each May in honor of Foster Care Month. We also provide free quarterly training for foster families. In order to accomplish these goals, we host fundraisers, annually or semi-annually. The Southern Maine Foster Family Recruitment Team welcomes inquiries from potential community partners to host informational exhibits, training or fundraisers.
